An estate gift from Gloria Heath honors her late brother while creating opportunities for students to pursue the arts.

A sister’s love for her brother and his alma mater is creating new opportunities for students to embrace the performing arts.

Before she passed away in December 2017, Gloria Heath pledged a gift in honor of her brother, Royal Heath ’43, who died in an airplane accident in 1948.

Royal was a member of the Stevens Dramatic Society, so Gloria established the Royal Vale Heath, Jr. ’43 Endowed Fund for Dramatics. The fund will support performance workshops that all students can attend free of charge, with the first featuring guest lecturers from The Moth, a notable New York City spoken word competition.

“Our intent is to make this a regular part of our performing arts programming,” said Carl Russell, director of the DeBaun Performing Arts Center. “We can attract the large number of students who perform through our Shakespeare and modern theater series and acting workshops, the Stevens Dramatic Society’s plays, Theta Alpha Phi’s musicals, and Off-Center’s improv and sketch comedy.”
